Bosenberg Motorcycle ExcursionsBurgundy & Swiss Alps tour narrative

Alpine regions offer motorcyclists more riding adventure and excitement than any other region in Europe. Choose this tour for combining gourmet and riding highlights or ride our French & Swiss Alps tour for the western Alps or select our Classic Alps & Dolomites tour for the eastern Alps. Hard choice to make, flip a coin if you must.

The wines of Europe enthralled kings, knights and maidens in the days long past. The vineyards today still provide the best reds and whites. Riders in the 21st century can additionally enjoy the curves and superb scenery through wine regions. This tour is for those who take their motorcycling as serious as the wine master in his cellar. Both know that life is a bit better and more enjoyable when practicing their trade. You have a chance to experience the best of two worlds.

Your ride has more curves and the natural beauty more rugged and open. The western Alps are less developed than their eastern relatives, but the riding adventure is arguably better. Of course, the French cuisine has no counterparts anywhere in the world.

Start your ride by winding along the Rhine river and through the vineyards and hills of Rhinehessen. Discover the Suedliche Weinstrasse and enter France by passing through the Maginot line. Join the Route du Vin and stay in a colorful Alsatian wine village. Ride south through vineyards and colorful towns. Start to climb into rolling meadows and forests and enter the Vogesen mountain range. Climb towards le Markstein and the Grand-Ballon or ride the nearby Col de la Schlucht. This area has more curves per kilometer than most Alpine areas.

motorcycle tours French & Swiss Alps Grimsel pass

Everywhere you ride, there is something to delight the senses. Charming half- timbered cottages with window boxes bursting with colorful flowers...dark, quiet woods, fragrantly scented with pine... fairy tale castles around many curves and always beautiful scenery.

Brunngasse in Brienz on Burgundy & Swiss Alps tour

Conquer the Ballon d'Alsace. Ride west towards the agricultural province of Franche-Comte. Through endless rolling hills and forests ride the Plateau de Haute-Saone and follow the Saone river. This river takes its time as it wanders to the Rhone, and you too will also be tempted to try this riding variant of wandering ever so slowly, taking your time, setting your own pace.

Start to see vineyards as you enter the Cote d'Or wine region. If you like, stop at the Burgundy provincial capital of Dijon and walk the historical town center. It has many things to offer besides its colorful rooftops and the world's best mustard.

Or perhaps you would like to visit the castle-cloister Clos de Vougeot. In any case, ride south and meander along the Route du Vin through the picturesque wine villages of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. The wine at your evening dinner taste even better when you ride the vineyards that very same day.

Enjoy a full 3 day stop in the heart of the Burgundy province. Cultural and riding highlights include: Visit one of the numerous wine museums, abbeys or churches in the Cote de Beaune or Haute Cotes regions, or ride west and visit one of dozens of castles and fortresses, for instance the Chateauneuf en Auxois.

Ride south and see the former medieval papal palace at Cluny. Dozens of route variations are possible. Ride carefree knowing you only need to look at your detailed regional map when you are truly off the beaten track... or how about returning early for an afternoon wine tasting at a local cellar?

Ride the greenest of all provinces of France. With more agricultural then industry, you will enjoy a varied ride of sights, colors, sounds and smells. Wander through the Vallee de la Loue or Foret de Joux towards Pontarlier in the Jura mountains. Or ride one of the fascinating ridge roads over the Col de Roches towards La Chaux de Fonds and the Swiss watch region.

Ascend and descend the Jura mountain region as you cross one ridge line after another. Savor your first Alpine air and curves. Enter the Vaud province of Switzerland.

See the Neuchatel lake as you descend from the hills and see vineyards once again. Founded 8 centuries ago by the Dukes of Zaehringen, Murten has been able to balance the modern needs of today with its' original architectural character. The entire town center is a medieval work of art.

motorcycle tours Heidelberg

Ride southeast towards Fribourg and Bulle and then challenge the Jaun pass. Or ride east towards Schwarzenburg and Thun. You will need to brush up on your German as you enter the Berner Oberland region. If you like, and before you start to climb, head south and visit the castle at Gruyeres. Sample some cheeses bearing the town's name the world over.

Challenge the Col des Mosses or Col du Pillon. Continue through the Simmental towards Spiez on the Thunersee and then eastward through Interlaken. Stop for a well deserve coffee break at numerous locations or continue east with a delightful afternoon ride along the north bank of the Brienzersee.

motorcycle tour Swiss Alps

Explore the wood-carvers village of Brienz am Brienzersee. Experience a cogwheel train car ride to the Rothorn summit. No matter which way you plan to ride, Alpine vistas, rushing rivers, cows grazing on high pastures and villages of flowered chalets welcome you. Even the most ardent sport riders take time to enjoy the flowers.

Visit Lucerne with its "Wooden Chapel" bridge and historical Altstadt. Greet the highest and best-known Swiss passes such as the Susten, Nufenen and Gotthard. Challenge the Grimsel and Furka passes with their superb sweeping curves and unforgettable vistas.

Stop by the Fritz Egli garage in the town of Bettwil. Considered by many to be the best engine tuner and frame constructor in Europe, he calls himself simply "a mechanic".

Ride the "Black Forest High Road" with its hills and curves, open meadows and green valleys. With luck you may hear a real cuckoo or more likely purchase an authentic smaller version of the Black Forest's most famous product.

See the "Student Prince" university town of Heidelberg. Visit the Altstadt (Old City) with its historical center. Your tour is almost over as you mount your steed one last time, ride the cobblestone streets and enter the Autobahn for a short and fast ride towards Frankfurt/Main.
